We've teamed up with The Teaching 2 Step for a fun Halloween Bash Blog Hop.
To get in the Halloween spirit, here are some pictures of us in Halloween costumes and dressed-up for other reasons:

Jonathan and some friends dressed up for fun one evening when he was in college. This was for no particular reason, but it was funny. |
My favorite costume we ever wore was actually not for Halloween but for a church youth group activity they called the "Blue Gnu" that involved people from the church disguising themselves and wandering around an outdoor mall and the students had to find us. Imagine Where's Waldo? but in real life. Students stood right next to me and didn't recognize me. Also a young child that didn't know me said to their mom, "That lady looks weird. She looks old but her face looks young." Fun times!
Grandparents (we were in our young twenties) |
My current favorite recipe is something that I made up one day based on an idea from my six-year-old daughter, although I know it isn't a new idea.
Lately, baked potato slices have been my favorite snack and I even made it into a yummy meal:
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
2. Slice potatoes. I cut mine about a half-inch thick.
3. Spray the baking sheet with olive oil spray.
4. Lay one layer of potatoes on the baking sheet and spray them with olive oil spray.
5. Season them as you so desire . . . the possibilities are endless. I've been using Lawry's Season Salt, a little bit of garlic salt (too much of this can ruin it for me), and some pepper.
6. Put it into the oven for 20 minutes depending on the thickness of your slices and how crispy you want them.
7. Take them out of the oven and flip the potatoes over to bake on the other side for 10-20 minutes. (The time is not exact because I'm not a very exact person when it comes to cooking. I just wing it and check them to make sure they aren't burning.)
8. Separate the potatoes from the baking sheet and let them cool.
9. You can eat them as is or you can top them. In the picture above it shows the potatoes topped with taco seasoned chicken, cheese, and some sliced olives.
THEY HAVE BEEN DELICIOUS!
Our favorite memory when Halloween comes around each year always pops into our mind when we see candy corn. It's a stand-up bit by Lewis Black that we quote whenever we see candy corn:
And now . . . some treats for you.
All the people that participated in the blog hop have added a teaching resource that we also sell in our TeachersPayTeachers store.
We contributed our creepiest creation, a 31-page mood and tone bundle for Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart." It's also on sale in our store during this blog hop week.
It includes:
* 3-page text of Edgar Allan Poe's original short story
* 8 pages of literary analysis questions about the mood and tone in the story. These questions discuss many quotes from "The Tell-Tale Heart" and the different moods those passages create.
* 1-page plot chart diagram
* 19-slide PowerPoint for easy review of the 8 pages of questions
